Refuge

Refuge is committed to a world where violence against women and girls (VAWG) is no longer tolerated. For almost 50 years, we have empowered women and children to rebuild their lives, free from fear and violence, by providing a range of life-saving and life-changing services.

Today we are the largest single provider of specialist services to 7,000 survivors of domestic, sexual and gender-based violence on any given day. We provide a national network of 41 refuges, child support services, independent advocacy and community outreach, and specialist services for survivors of modern slavery and technology-facilitated abuse. Refuge also runs the National Domestic Abuse Helpline which provides the first point of contact for women looking to flee abuse. We operate a survivor-centric model that starts with the individual woman’s needs, and provide tailored casework to ensure they are safe. We work with them to achieve their health, economic and social wellbeing goals, which can include help finding a new school place for their child, support through the justice system, or help accessing specialist health support.
